Gybe Consulting was founded by Michael Johns and Libby Kidd with a simple belief: recruitment works best when it's built on trust, transparency and genuine relationships.

Since then, we've focused exclusively on marketing, digital and sales recruitment, building deep networks and a strong understanding of the markets we serve. In 2025, Cass Barker joined the business, further strengthening a team that has spent decades connecting great people with great businesses across Brisbane and beyond.

Today, Gybe is trusted by organisations ranging from growing local businesses to nationally recognised brands. While every search is different, our approach remains the same: understand the brief, tell the truth about the market and work relentlessly to find the right fit.

Michael Johns

Director

For more than 15 years, Michael has been placing marketers and digital professionals across Brisbane and South East Queensland, helping businesses build high-performing teams and helping candidates take the next step in their careers.

As a degree-qualified marketer himself, he brings a level of commercial and industry understanding that most recruiters simply don’t have. That perspective, combined with a deeply connected network across Queensland’s marketing and digital community, allows him to provide genuine market insight alongside candidate introductions.

He is known for uncovering talent that isn’t actively looking, for giving advice that is direct rather than convenient, and for still being in contact with people he placed more than a decade ago. His approach is straightforward: recruitment works best when both sides feel heard, and the right placement tends to speak for itself.

Michael works with a small number of clients at any one time, allowing him to understand each business properly, challenge thinking where needed, and find talent that fits not just the role, but where the business is heading.

Libby Kidd

Director

With 18 years of recruitment experience across Australia and the UK, Libby has spent her career specialising in sales and marketing roles, placing candidates across public sector, blue chip, commercial and startup organisations from entry level through to senior executive.

What sets Libby apart is the depth of understanding she brings to every search. Clients consistently note that she knows their business well enough to filter for fit, not just skills, and that she isn’t afraid to challenge thinking when it leads to a better outcome. That combination of commercial knowledge and candour is what makes her easy to work with and hard to replace.

For candidates, the experience is just as considered. Libby keeps people informed, does what she says she will do, and genuinely invests in helping people find the right next step, not just the next available one.

Cass Barker

Director

With 16 years of recruitment experience across the UK, EU and APAC, Cass has spent her career doing one thing: helping marketing and communications teams find the people who make them better. She has worked across consumer, B2B, corporate, government and not-for-profit organisations of all sizes, and brings a depth of market knowledge that is genuinely global.

What clients notice quickly is that Cass invests in understanding their business at a level that goes well beyond the brief. She learns the culture, the team dynamic, and the kind of person who will actually thrive there. The result is candidates who fit, not just on paper, but in practice.
